Human-animal interaction is proven to increase social skills, provide companionship, activate patient self-care, and instill hope in those suffering from a severe mental illness.
The HARP program leverages these benefits in order to improve mental health and wellness, in turn increasing placement for homeless animals.
Participants will choose a pet from the Toledo Area Humane Society to serve as an emotional support animal. They will receive pet care education at the time of pet selection. If financial assistance is needed to support the pet, participants may receive free veterinary care for the life of the pet as well as assistance with pet food and supplies at designated locations.
