WHO WE ARE

The Northwest Ohio Area Office on Aging Foundation, founded in 2010, supports the Area Office on Aging of Northwestern Ohio (AOA) by raising funds to support its programs, services, operating, and capital needs.

Our mission is to support the AOA in keeping loved ones, family members, friends, and neighbors over the age of 60, as well as those with disabilities at any age, living independently and thriving in their own homes as long as possible.

We envision community resources that allow people to thrive beyond age 60. The Northwest Ohio Area Office on Aging Foundation is in place to support the Area Office on Aging as it promotes the health, well-being, and safety of older adults, persons with disabilities, and family caregivers to foster independence.

Many seniors in Northwest Ohio are struggling to remain independent; simple tasks required for daily living – meals, transportation, medical care, personal grooming, grocery shopping – can be difficult at times for people aged 60 and over. These seniors are your grandparents, parents, friends, and neighbors. Keeping your loved ones safe and living independently at home begins with you.

WHAT YOU CAN DO

All planned campus and community expansions rely on private funding to close the gap where grants and partnerships leave off. The programming and services offered including assisted living waiver program, benefits counseling, family caregiver support program, home energy assistance program, home repair program, in-home care programs, kinship navigator program, Lucas County senior dining site program and managed care programs are supported by a Lucas County levy.

Programs like the senior farmer’s market nutrition program, housing development and campus expansions are examples where additional private grants and private donations are needed. In 2025 the AOA is undergoing campus transformations with a walkability path installed that will connect the entire campus, its residents and surrounding providers. In addition, in partnership with National Church Alliance, a new senior center will be built on the campus, offering recreation and apartment living to anyone age 60 and over. Off campus the Thurgood Marshall Senior Apartment project in downtown Toledo is in the planning stages with community partners including Lucas County Housing Authority and The Ability Center and other community agencies.
