Provides services to the central Toledo area. Non-profit agency founded by the Community Planning Council of Northwest Ohio. Mission is to serve older members of the community age 60 and over, to provide an outlet for their creative talents and to allow them to pursue particular interests. Serves as sponsoring agency for Foster Grandparent Program which is a volunteer opportunity for low income senior citizens. The volunteer is trained and placed in a community agency to work with special needs children. All volunteers work approximately 20 hours per week and receive an hourly volunteer stipend and daily travel and meal allowance. Vans are available to transport seniors to and from the senior center for anyone living within the senior center boundaries. Serves as host agency to Senior Employment Program, which trains and employs senior citizens over the age of 55 and places them in community agencies. Activities include educational speakers on various topics, entertainment programs, health promotion activities, health screenings, exercise classes. Educational instruction is offered in computers including Internet, ceramics, sewing, quilting and yarn work. (about 25) brown bag lunches daily. Senior participants are asked to give a donation for each meal. Offers a comprehensive outreach program which seeks to help a senior participant find a solution to a particular need or problem. Main goal of the outreach program is to find the best program or service to meet the need of the individual, to help maintain the individual's independence in the community. Services include help with housekeeping, running errands, help with various housing issues. Help with insurance forms, referrals for eligibility to programs such as Medicaid, SSI, food stamps, HEAP, other utility programs or applying for a Golden Buckeye card.
