Hospice of Northwest Ohio provides care for people who have any type of terminal illness or progressive disease that no longer responds to curative treatment. Our individualized care accommodates the special needs of newborns, children and adolescents as well as adults of all ages.

Patients are usually referred to hospice by their physicians. However, referrals also can be made by family members, friends, clergy, or other health professionals. Patients and families are encouraged to call Hospice of Northwest Ohio directly whether or not they have a physician referral to seek advice and information at any time during their illness.

Patients are encouraged to seek assistance from Hospice when it is believed they have a life expectancy of six months or less. Hospice services are covered, in full or in part, by Medicare, Medicaid, and most insurance plans. Because Hospice of Northwest Ohio is a non-profit United Way agency, no one is ever turned away because of an inability to pay.

For patients who have an illness that cannot be cured, many difficult questions can arise. There are important concerns and issues unique to each individual that cannot be addressed in a traditional health care setting. Only hospice offers what patients want most during their final months. Choices about what types of care and support they personally wish to receive and where they wish to receive it; control of pain and other symptoms so they can spend each day in comfort and enjoy quality time with friends and loved ones; spiritual and emotional support that helps them and their families address difficulties; fears and end-of-life issues; the ability to stay at home or in our home-like hospice center. At Hospice of Northwest Ohio, we understand the needs you and your family have, the decisions you are facing and the uncertainties you feel about the future.

Offers everything needed to help manage a patient's terminal illness: specialized medical and nursing care; expert pain and symptom management; drugs, medical equipment and supplies; various types of therapy; emotional, spiritual and bereavement support for the entire family.

Caring for the Caregiver and Hands-On Caregiving workshops are free and open to anyone in the community, offering practical tips and healthy insights to assist caregivers in the physical care of a loved one as well as in finding meaning in the caregiving experience.

Palliative Care is specialized medical care for people with serious illness. This type of care is focused on providing relief from the symptoms and stress of a serious illness. The goal is to improve quality of life for both the patient and the family.
