PURPOSE
The Elderly Emergency Home Repair program assists low-income homeowners age 62 and older with funds to pay for one emergency home repair that addresses a problematic health and safety condition. The activity assists elderly homeowners to continue living independently within their own homes.
ELIGIBILITY
Homeowners will qualify as low-income if their income is at or below 80% of the Median Household Income level of Wood County (as determined by HUD):

STANDARD
The standard of improvement will be Wood County Health, Safety and Sanitation Code and /or OHCP Residential Rehabilitation Standards which ever takes precedents over the work to be done.
ASSISTANCE PACKAGE
Grants will be provided to qualified homeowners in the form of a no-pay- back grant up to $8,000. The applicant must own the property (have a clear title to the property or a recorded life lease or life estate) and occupy it as their primary residence. The City of Bowling Green will hold no mortgage or lien against the property.
The city of Bowling Green has a policy noting that applicants with liquid assets in excess of $5,000 may be required to contribute a portion of these assets. These assets include savings accounts, Certificates of Deposit, stocks, bonds and other real estate.
ELIGIBLE WORK
Eligible work under Elderly Home Repair includes, but is not limited to:
Electrical wiring, plumbing, roofing, heating system repair/replacement, water service repair/replacement, sanitary repair /replacement, structural repair and any other work necessary to correct an emergency substandard conditions.
Ineligible Rehabilitation items include construction of new additions or accessory structures, appliances, not built-in, recreational improvements /repairs and the cost of landscaping. Work completed through the program will be limited to rehabilitation necessary to correct ONE substandard condition.
