The Ohio Department on Aging (ODA) is transitioning the SFMNP to an “e-solution” shifting from printed materials to a fully electronic system called Homegrown Benefits. Participation for 2024 will require individuals to complete their application online through the Area Office on Aging website.

There are two ways to apply

Digital Application Process

  • All past participants and new applicants must apply through the application link.
  • The electronic application is the most efficient way to apply and get approved for the SFMNP.
  • All interested individuals and past SMFNP participants MUST complete the application.
  • An email address is required to fill out the electronic application.
  • If participants do not have an email address, we can set one up for them.
  • Once they complete the online application, the Ohio Department of Aging will email a notification of approval for the program. The email will come from support@homegrownbenefits.com the email will include a link for registration

Step 2: Registration

  • When the participant is approved, they will receive an email confirming approval. The email will include a link to activate their account.
  • The account must be registered. Follow the step-by-step guide on how to register the account. It will be linked in the approval email.
  • Participants can either set up and online account or download the "Homegrown Benefits for eFMNP" app from their phone app store (supported by Android and Apple phones).
  • The Homegrown Benefits for the eFMNP app will be used to check coupon balances and will be used to redeem coupons for produce.

A dedicated support line from Homegrown Support will be available to help participants directly.

Paper Application process

If the participant completes the application on paper (due to having no smartphone or email) approval notification will be made by mail. This process will take a little longer, 3-4 weeks according to ODA.

From there the participant will receive a physical card with the $50 to spend on fruits & vegetables at local farmers market and road side stands.
