The Ohio Department of Development and the Area Office on Aging of Northwestern Ohio (AOoA) want to remind senior citizens in Ohio that assistance is available to help with their home energy bills. The Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) provides eligible Ohioans assistance paying their heating bills.

HEAP benefits can help manage heating cost. Older adults (60 years or older) may visit AOoA for help with assembling the required documents and completing their HEAP application. Older adults may also visit www.energyhelp.ohio.gov or areaofficeonaging.com to apply online or to download a copy of the application.

Applicants must have the following documents when applying:

• Most recent energy bills

• A list of all household members (including birth dates and Social Security numbers)

• Proof of U.S. citizenship or legal residency for all household members

• Proof of disability (if applicable)

• Proof of income for the last 30 days for all household members

Applications for the HEAP program must be received by May 31, 2023.
