Grandparents and Relatives Raising Children Keep Families Together In northwest Ohio, there are an estimated 9,170 children living with grandparents and other relatives who are serving as their primary caregivers. Lucas County older adults are 13% more likely to have grandchildren living in their home than the average older Ohioan. The Area Office on Aging’s Kinship Navigator Program seeks to assist the grandparents and relative caregivers of Lucas County by County by providing education, resources and on-going support. Marsha Derby said, “When we took over raising my great-grandson, Anthony, five years ago, I felt overwhelmed. The Kinship Navigator Program was like a lifeline for me that gave me support.” Those grandparents and relatives raising children can contact 419-382-0624 or visit www.AreaOfficeOnAging.com for more information about the Kinship Navigator Program.
